General Product

What is O2OPTIX?

O2OPTIX is a revolutionary silicone hydrogel contact lens from CIBA Vision that provides up to 5 times more oxygen than the leading traditional soft contact lens. And, the patented surface treatment resists deposits to contribute to healthy lens wear. Designed to reduce the signs of corneal oxygen deficiency, O2OPTIX is an excellent choice for those patients who wear their lenses for many hours during the day or who occasionally want to sleep in their lenses.

What is the wear and replacement schedule for O2OPTIX lenses?

O2OPTIX is FDA approved for daily wear and up to six nights of extended wear. The recommended replacement schedule is 2 weeks.

In what powers is O2OPTIX available?

O2OPTIX is offered in a single base curve (8.6mm) in spherical powers from -0.25 to –8.00, 0.25D steps; -8.50 to –10.00, 0.50D steps; and +0.25 to +6.00, 0.25D steps.

Is O2OPTIX available in colors?

No, O2OPTIX lenses are not available in colors at this time. However, CIBA Vision offers many types of colored contact lenses to change, enhance or illuminate eye color.

For more information on CIBA Vision's FreshLook® color lenses, visit freshlookcontacts.com.

I have astigmatism. Can I wear O2OPTIX lenses?

Currently, an O2OPTIX toric lens is in limited availability in the US. Patients with up to 1.25D of astigmatism may be able to be fitted in a spherical O2OPTIX lens depending on their exact vision and visual needs. If you have astigmatism, you should talk to your eye care provider about this possibility.

Is everybody able to wear these lenses?

As with all contact lenses, it is impossible to say that everyone can wear a particular lens. O2OPTIX is offered in a single base curve (8.6mm) in spherical powers from -0.25 to –8.00, 0.25D steps; -8.50 to –10.00, 0.50D steps; and +0.25 to +6.00, 0.25D steps. Your eye care provider can determine the best lens for you.

If your prescription does not fall into this range, you may be a candidate for O2OPTIX Custom™, the first and only made-to-order silicone hydrogel contact lens for patients that are harder to fit. O2OPTIX Custom lenses are available for high myopia, high hyperopia, small corneas and flat corneas. Ask your eye care provider if you are a candidate for O2OPTIX Custom or visit O2OPTIXcustom.com.

Does O2OPTIX have a handling tint?

Research and Development

How was O2OPTIX developed?

O2OPTIX is a continuation of CIBA Vision's industry-leading research into silicone hydrogel contact lens technology.

What are silicone hydrogel contact lenses?

O2OPTIX lenses are made of a revolutionary, patented silicone hydrogel material, lotrafilcon B. The unique molecular structure of this material has two distinct pathways that allow water to pass through the lens without reducing the material's ability to transmit oxygen to the eye. This enables the lens to move freely on the eye and to keep plenty of oxygen flowing through the lens.

What is Dk? What is Dk/t?

Oxygen permeability (Dk) refers to the lens material’s ability to transmit oxygen. Oxygen transmissibility (Dk/t), a more relevant measure for contact lenses, takes into account the material’s oxygen permeability and its thickness, factors that affect the amount of oxygen that can pass through the lens.
